I have purchased a vehicle, how do I know if you will ship my car to my desired destination?

Freightmar International is a leading car shipping forwarding company. It is endorsed by major North American auto auctions and entrusted to provide export assistance for non-North American buyers. For added clients confidence and security we also carry $150,000 bond with FMC (Federal Maritime Commission) and Forwarders Liability/ E&O Insurance.

From which ports you can ship cars?

The majority of cars handled by Freightmat International are loaded and shipped from: NY/NJ, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto. Some cars are also loaded and shipped from Norfolk , Wilmington , Savannah, Atlanta, Cape Canaveral, Port Everglades, Tampa, Oakland, Tacoma, Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax.

From which inland locations / auctions you can pick up cars and deliver to port / terminals?

Our own dispatch department can arrange pick up from any location in USA or Canada, it might be auction, dealership or even private residence. Our set land transport rates from 404 locations ( auctions ) across USA & Canada can be found at www.order.exporttrader.com - for non damaged cars or www.exportcopart.com/section/transportation/ for salvage cars.

How will I know if my car has been picked up, delivered or shipped?

We have one of the most sophisticated tracing/tracking systems for shipping cars. Our custom designed, web- based program notifies clients by an auto-message
email when the:
- car is ready for pick-up READY
- car is scheduled to be picked up PICKUP
- car is picked up CONF.
- car delivered to warehouse/terminal TERM.
- car is loaded into container or on ro-ro ship LOAD
- vessel with car is scheduled to sail ETS
- vessel with car actually sails SAIL

Is there a place where I can go check the status of the vehicle?

When you have made a contract agreement with Freightmar International for the first shipment you and every first time client receives by email auto-message his own exclusive access and password to our web based program at www.dealers.freightmar.com.

There are many options in terms of matching ports and destinations on your shipping rate calculators. What is the best exit port from which to send my vehicle?

Usually it's the port closest to the location of the vehicle that you have purchased, although in some cases it is beneficial to deliver the vehicle to another port from which there is more shipping traffic and better rates to the final destination.

I have never shipped a car before, what kind of documentation do you require to ship the vehicle?

Usually all that is needed is the original title for the vehicle that has been purchased. Shipping from Florida ports requires an original Power Of Attorney from the last owner indicated on the Title. This will authorize export shipping. If the last owner is a company a Power Of Attorney must be submitted confirming the person signing for the company is authorized to do so by the company.

Will I need to be filling out any of the paperwork for exporting the vehicle, or do you handle all of that?

Everything is done by Freightmar International, except the Power Of Attorney as in the previous answer.

How much will it cost to transport my vehicle?

Please see our volume rates for regular size cars at www.order.exporttrader.com - non damaged cars or www.exportcopart.com/section/transportation/ - salvage cars. The ocean rates displayed are based on shipping 3 cars in one container or shipping Ro-Ro. Rates for fewer cars per container or 4 cars in a container, for some Middle East and Africa destinations, can be requested.

The rate that I had received from your company is different from what was listed on the rate links, why is that?

Either the size of your vehicle is bigger/longer from one normally considered to be a regular car (maximum 'regular' SUV size is Jeep Cherokee , Toyota Highlander, Lexus RX330) or you have only 1 or 2 cars to be shipped to your destination instead of being able to fill a container. Sometimes if the destination is popular then we can ship your vehicles with another exporter's vehicle and save everyone money. This is called consolidation.

If I decide that I would like to ship 3 vehicles, but not purchased at the same time are there going to be storage charges for cars waiting in the terminal / port till all cars are ready for shipping?

In general there is free storage for two weeks but it might be extended depending on location and present volume. The normal storage rates are $10 per car per day when they must be paid.

Is it cheaper to ship cars in containers or in Ro-Ro (roll-on / roll-off)?

Out of USA and Canada presently it is cheaper to ship cars in containers to the majority of destinations, however in case of single car shipping, Ro-Ro might be more cost efficient than in containers. In cases where the vehicle is very large or won't fit the container Ro-Ro is usually the only option. See below.

What is the maximum size of vehicles you can ship in containers?

The door of a marine container (40' High Cube) is 92 inches (92" or 234 cm) wide and 101.5 inches (258 cm) high. Some boats on trailers which are a maximum of 94" wide might be still loaded in containers (tilted / on an angle).

Can you ship trucks, trailers, boat, etc. which are to big to be shipped in containers?

Of course - we specialize in shipping of all types of vehicles. All such units are shipped by Ro-Ro (roll-on / roll-off) vessels. Rates are provided on a case by case basis.

I have agreed to the prices, what do I do now to confirm the order?

You should fill out the Shipping Request form which you will find on our website or you might send us an email with details.

Where do I send the money to once I have been invoiced for the shipment and what methods of payment do you accept?

Banking details are always on our Invoices and you also can also find it on our website in 'Contacts'. We accept payments by wire transfers and by credit cards using WorldPay.

How many days do I have to pay the invoice?

Terms for payment of freight charges are indicated always on our Invoices. Payment is usually required 14 days from the date of invoice. After 30 days there are late payment fees as indicated on Invoice.

I do not need land transportation services, can I arrange for the vehicle to be dropped off at the loading warehouse?

Clients can arrange own delivery to one of our warehouses / terminal.

What are the additional charges that your company charges, aside from Ocean transportation and Land transportation?

Our rates include:
-US export clearance,
-SED - Shippers Export Declaration,
-Regular shipping documents and handling.

There are additional charges for:
-Marine Insurance ( optional ) All risks at premium 0.9% of declared value (total loss only for salvage cars).
-Courier fees for original Title to US customs and back costs $35 ,
-Courier fees (if required) to destination depends on destination.
-Wire transfer fee of $20 for freight payments.

Can I pack auto parts or personal effects in my vehicle?

Yes but not any dangerous goods - flammable, under pressure, toxic, etc., including windshield washer fluid, paint, aerosols, airbags, shock absorbers, etc. Clients have to provide itemized list of the items including declared value of the contents of the vehic

Is my car insured while in shipping overseas?

No but Freightmar International might place ( it has to be requested in writing to Freightmar ) marine insurance for you at an exceptional premium of 0.9% of declared value. Declared value should be calculated as: total purchase price + C&F destination charges (freight) + 10%. Non-salvage cars can be covered for 'all risks' which includes damage while enroute and salvage cars for 'total loss' only. We strongly recommend the placement of insurance for all cars shipped.

How long will it take to transport my vehicle to the loading warehouse/terminal?

Actual delivery time depends on location and distance. Take a moment and look at the map of United States. The distances are very long and there are mountains, rivers and lakes that affect land transport. To add to that rain and snow conditions will be a factor. Taking this into consideration, most deliveries will take from 1 day to 8 days of travel time. Deliveries from Alaska & Hawaii are special orders which are dealt with on case by case basi

How many days in advance do I have to make arrangements for my vehicle to be picked up?

No special notice is required. Orders should be placed only when cars are paid in full. Also be aware of the status of the title. Sometimes titles can be delayed. You will need the title before the car is loaded for ocean shipping.

How long does it take to have my vehicle picked up for transport, after I've made arrangements?

Usually pick up occurs within 2-3 days after payment and arrangements are made. We guarantee pick up within 5 business days from most locations (90%). No one else offers such a guarantee. However, some locations are considered 'difficult' and are not guaranteed. Examples of these are: Alaska; Arizona - Phoenix, Tuscon; Hawaii; Florida - Midway, Tallahasse; Iowa - Des Moines; Idaho - Nampa; Kansas - Wichita; KIentucky - Lexington, Louisville, Walton; Montana - Helena, Billings; Missouri - Sisketon; Nebraska - Lincoln; Nevada - Reno, Las Vegas; New Mexico - Albuquerque; Ohio - Boise; Oklahoma - Tulsa, Oklahoma City; Oregon - Eugene; Puerto Rico; Texas - El Paso, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Mercedes, Mcallen

How long after the vehicle is picked up, can I expect it to be loaded into a container?

Usually it's done within 2-5 days (original Title must be present) , but it could be affected by many factors like overbooked vessels, shortage of equipment, congestion at ports/terminals and other factors which cannot usually be anticipated.

How long does it take to reach the destination once the car has sailed?

It depends on distance and routing. All transit times are estimates only and never guaranteed. Moreover, steamship lines have the right to even change routing as long as the shipment is delivered to the final destination.

Where will my car documents be sent so that I could receive / customs clear the vehicle in my country?

Documents (including original title) are always couriered by us by FedEx or TNT to our agent at destination port or directly to the consignee. On request they also can be couriered to the shipper or even a third party.

Will I be notified once the vehicle has arrived at the desired destination?

Yes, our agent at destination port ( or steamship line office ) will contact consignee that has been indicated on Bill of Lading when the car or container arrives. This notification is courtesy and is not mandatory.

While shipping a car overseas do I need to deal with Customs?

You do not have to deal with US or Canadian customs at the departure. On the arrival of the car at your destination port you or the agent authorized by you has to arrange customs clearance with local customs.

What kind of services do the destination agents offer for me as a client?

Destination agents can arrange:
- unloading from the containers or release from the Ro-Ro terminal
- documents required for customs clearance or transit
- customs clearance with local customs
- insurance for driving the car in transit
- delivery of the car from port to any inland destination

Are there any charges at destination?

Yes. At every destination port there are terminal/unloading/handling charges to be paid to the agent. The range of charges vary from country to country. The worldwide average is $250.
